Naturopathic medicine (naturopathy) is the art and science of improving someones health and treating dis-ease and disorder in the body by assisting the body's innate abilities to heal itself, and by providing natural aids to this healing.
Naturopaths can be considered the natural health version of your general practitioner.
Naturopaths in Australasia complete a minimum of a 3 year Diploma or Degree in Naturopathy (or Natural Medicine) as well as several hundred hours of clinical practice during which they must show proficiency in diagnostics and treatment of patients with a range of disorders and special needs.
Naturopaths treat the whole person, not just a symptom profile.
What happens in a consultation?
A visit to a Naturopath will be similar in many ways to a visit to your family doctor, although your first consultation will generally be longer as a thorough history will be taken (including dietary, lifestyle, stress and emotional factors) and a medical assessment will be carried out.
Lifestyle advice, nutrition advice, and treatments (herbal medicine, supplementation and various other natural and holistic modalities) may be prescribed based on your individual case.
[My initial consultation takes around 2 hours to complete and a full report including nutrition and lifestyle advice and treatment plan is prepared and sent to you.]
As a Naturopath my specialist areas are Nutrition and Mind-Body medicine. I specialise in providing the chemical basis for good health (nutrition) along with aiding the belief basis that can help to reduce the psycho-emotional effect of negative and self limiting behaviours on health, performance and happiness!
